framerate asFFT needs dir to run at to be accurate? (2 replies)

testing out the plugin and I must say, its pretty cool. I am wanting to play audio and launch an action based on the id of the sound at a particular second/frame in time.

I am able to play the sound and capture the values for 3 bands of EQ (bins) and then successfully play it back and execute my trigger when it hears that frequency played back.

The problem is that this only works with 3 bins. and only 60% of the time. Other times it misses the mark. I rather query 15-20 bin samples to be very accurate.

To get it to work at all I also must have normalized and equalized set (which is fine).

For what I am doing I must run the project at 25FPS. Is this one of the reasons I am not able to do much past 3 bins? I tried speeding the FPS up so that when looping it is checking faster, but does not seem to matter.

Do you have any suggestions to improve the recognition of more then 3 frequencies. tried increasing time smoothing but did not help...but maybe I need to try that more? This may be a limitation of lingo not processing fast enough? processing sound level works really well , but not as accurate as FFT

3D visual Equaliser problems. (no replies)

hi,
im wondering if anyone can help me. i am trying to design a 3d equaliser using the asfft xtra. so far i have been able to export the w3d file and get it into director, and then get the individual balls to move if a mic input is present, but i want to seperate the frequencies of the sound into groups say 200hz to 350hz for one ball 350-1k for another and so on. If someone could point me in the right direction coding wise it would be greatly appreciated

i am a complete beginner at this and im amazed that i have been able to get this far, but the project is due in fairly soon and i would appreciate any help you could give.
i have attached a jpeg of the design and a link to a video of the first stage, im not sure they will be any help.

Thanks very much

I just purchased your plugin and am trying to create a spectrum analyzer that visually reacts both upwards and downwards direction. I've attached a still of what I am attempting. I am quite new to lingo and so I have tried just duplicating the bar asset and scripts calling it. I've managed to have the second script move the bars negatively in Y but cannot Mask them so they do not overlap each other (thus obscuring the other). I've attached a pic of what I am trying to do to help explain. Scaling bars with central anchor point would work better but I don't know how to do it in lingo. Any help would be appreciated.

- Configured the xtrainfo.txt file in Director to my server
- Download if needed Checkbox on in Director
- Upload the packadge files (.ppc, .w32, .carb) to the direction in xtrainfo.txt (my server)

Im using Shockwave3D and Havok also.

When publishing from a PowerPC (Mac) there is no problem, the application works great in any browser (safari, mozilla).

In Windows i found a problem, i have also configured the xtrainfo.txt to use my server, when i publish the browser says that there are problems in shockwave.

Hi

I am building a simple test app that takes asfft and uses microphone input to adjust the size of a w3d object.

im getting an object expected script error

ive got two scripts one to do and one to react

do_asfft:

property gFFT, gBins
global values

on beginSprite
-- creates xtra instance and checks it worked
gFFT = new(Xtra "asFFT")
if not objectp(gFFT) then put "error : 'new' failed"

-- sets the number of bins/ frequencies you want (must be power of 2)
-- can be between 2 and 256, 8 works well, any lower and its not very accurate
-- try using setParams(gBins, 4) if you want it to be more accurate, but cost in processing time
gBins = 32
err = gFFT.setParams(gBins)
if err = 0 then put "error init:" & gFFT.getError()
end

on enterFrame
if objectp(gFFT) then

-- get mic data, returns an array/ list. values.count will = gBins
-- 100 is the number that full volume will be- i used 100 as 100%
-- but you can use any number even 11 like spinal taps amp!
--
-- true, false means normalised, unequalised. normalised sound will show volume
-- otherwise it will only show frequency- the equaliser makes mine crash!
values = gFFT.getFFT(100, TRUE, FALSE)
if values = 0 then put "error reading:"&gFFT.getError()

end if
end

I've some problem with my realtek audio card (latest 2007 high definition driver from realtek). Using command

surlist = gFFT.getSourceList()

-- 1

??

Is it correct? I'm exepecting a string.

From this laptop your Shockwave demo says: Unknown source

From the same (i suppose) dir file the error is: Error reading: Unknown

Is this soundcard not compatible? It seems strange, maybe i make some mistake.
