Hi,

I've included an OSC encoding demo, written in lingo, along with the asUDP Xtra demos.

It encodes OSC messages and OSC bundles, strings, floats, doubles, integers, and blobs. I've also extended the OSC decode demo that was already present, so that it now decodes blobs too.

So now you can send and receive OSC in Director !
Enjoy !

Hi Antoine,

Can someone please tell me if there is a possibility to multicast UDP messages through asUDP? I need to relay timecode information to multiple computers to run videos on them in sync. If I relay that information sequentially, it brings too much lag.

Also, can't I get rid of the buffered stream of information to just read the latest packet sent? If there was some way of cleaning buffer and then reading, it would be perfect!

Hello, and sorry for my English...

I have to sync two Director movies containing videos, running on two computers. Also I have to sync events of Shockwave 3D : it's most easy...

The real problem is video sync. Not only managing the video's starts, but displaying videos wih frame accurate (like Ventuz, Wings, Watchout...).
I do not know how I can command the videos, correcting the course of the videos. I can display wmv, flv, quick time, etc.

Is it possible with Director and AsUDP ? Anybody has an idea ?

do you know the good old "xtranet.x32" Xtra ?
It was able to establish TCP/IP connections and you could send raw data through sockets. My question: does your asUDP xtra also support TCP in any way ?
If not, which xtra would you choose to deal with TCP in Director? Do you know any?
The thing is: it is supposed to work on MAC and PC with D10 (and D11 but not as important). I could not find any support for the xtranet xtra for mac...

Great XTRA, quite happy with it.
Trying to use it as an OSC receiver, works so far.

Now I am trying to receive floating point values, and this is quite difficult,
as the bytes come out pretty 'raw'
I'm used to use 'readfloat' with the BinaryIO Xtra etc., which automatically read the 4 (or 8) bytes and converts them.

I guess I have to do all kinds of bit operations from lingo.

Is there any trick to do this easy with the bytes xtra or any other of your xtras ?

Many news for asUDP :

- it has been ported to d11 ! Yippee. Just download the new version (3.0) from the asUDP page. Note that this new version is _NOT_ compatible with the previous ones. This is because Director11 strings are now Unicode and so cannot contains binary data any more. So a new datatype has been introduced ("bytes") to hold the UDP data received and sent. This introduces (small) changes in the asUDP API. This means that you need to change your existing lingo that addressed previous versions of asUDP, especially the sendBytes and getBytes functions.

- I have changed the getLocalIP and getBytesWithSenderInfo functions so that they return crypted IPs when used in shockwave. These crypted IPs can be used to send data, but are not human-readable. This allowed me to make the Xtra shockwave-safe and autodownlodable, because it now complies to Adobe's recommendations about shockwave-safeness.

- given all this work, I now sell the Xtra. Small price, but real price. This Xtra is a professionnal piece of software, it deserves its price. I hope so at least.

Enjoy !

Note that I have not decided yet if I should make this Xtra autodownloadable : it is declared shockwave-safe, but I have not built the packages. The reason is that I am not sure that it is totally safe. Indeed, the shockwave-safe page at Adobe states that an Xtra should not give access to the local IP address of the computer. This is why I have disabled the getLocalIP function in shockwave.

But the very handy getBytesWithSenderInfo function gives access to the IP of the sender of a message. So by sending a message to myself, I automatically get access to my localIP...

I do not want to disable the getBytesWithSenderInfo function because it is necessary to reply to an UDP packet, and I don't see why I would disable it anyway, since a sender IP is not private information : all browsers know their requestor IPs.

I may be tired this evening, but I don't see any solution. Ideas welcome.

Cheers !

Hi,

I've tried out the asUDP Xtra and it works really well. There is one feature that keeps me from being able to use it, though, and that is being able to retrieve the port number that is allocated for sending messages. Basically, the Xtra can't set up two-way communication through a router right now because you don't have this information. You need to listen and send on the same port for that to work (otherwise the server you are connecting to can't send messages back, as your listening port is mapped arbitrarily by the router).

Is there an undocumented way to do this using asUDP? Or perhaps is it simple to add? (If you are willing to open-source the Xtra, I would be happy to make the changes myself.)

Thanks
